Undergraduate Requirements

To earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in anthropology, students must complete 30 semester hours of anthropology courses. This includes foundational courses such as Introduction to Archaeology (ANT 2100), Introduction to Cultural Anthropology (ANT 2410), Introduction to Physical Anthropology (ANT 2511) and History of Anthropology (ANT 4034). Additionally, students are required to undertake 15 semester hours of advanced anthropology coursework at the 3000–4000 level.

The program emphasizes rigorous academic training, preparing students for various career paths and advanced studies. Graduates often pursue roles in government service, public policy, cultural resource management, public health, museum studies, and other fields where anthropological insights are valuable. The curriculum fosters critical thinking, research proficiency, and cross-cultural understanding, skills that are highly sought after in today's globalized job market.

The department also offers a minor in anthropology, requiring 12 semester hours of coursework, including either Introduction to Cultural Anthropology (ANT 2410) or Introduction to Physical Anthropology (ANT 2511). This option complements majors such as geography, geology, social sciences, and biology, providing a broader understanding of human cultures and behaviors.
