Dr. François Dengah is a biocultural medical anthropologist, specializing in cognitive theory and methods. He earned his PhD in anthropology at The University of Alabama (2013), and his MA (2008) and BA (2004) at Colorado State University. His research focuses on how cultural conformity (also known as cultural consonance) impacts the psychological and physiological well-being of individuals. His work examines the intersection of culture and stress among various communities, including Brazilians, video gamers, and religious groups.

Dr. Dengah specializes in mixed-methods and developing new means of documenting the interplay between culture and the individual. His book, Systematic Methods for Analyzing Culture: A Practical Guide, serves as a "how-to-guide" for those wanting to learn more about combining qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis in their research.

Dr. Dengah is also director of the Collaborative Anthropological Research Laboratory (CARL). CARL involves students of all levels on faculty research projects. This lab focuses on treating students as junior colleagues and teaching them about research methods by doing research. Alumni of CARL have gone onto many different careers, including (but not limited to) applied anthropologists, university professors, Air Force officers, and FBI agents.

A complete list of Dr. Dengah's research publications can be found on Google Scholar.
