Mark D. McCoy an anthropological archaeologist and Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Anthropology at Florida State University. He is an expert in the use of geospatial technology in archaeology, including geographic information systems, laser scanning, and remote sensing. His research centers on the development of ancient societies on Pacific Islands—including Hawai‘i, New Zealand, and Rapa Nui—and the relationship between people and their island environments. Since graduating with a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, he has held academic appointments at several universities.
